Linda has been involved in art and craft all her life and has painted on many surfaces: in her teens she painted postcards for pocket money, then a mural for friends on a boring long hallway. Later she painted on clothing and then ceramics, and was also involved in painting the scenery and backdrops for five local pantomime productions. An aspiring artist since her school days, Linda drew on the margins of her notebooks and entered all competitions available. However, on leaving school, a career in fine art was deemed not a "sensible" choice, and at the time seven years of study for architecture seemed like a lifetime!
It was in the early nineties that she first joined the Newcomers Art Group, picked up her brushes and started to paint again, at first in watercolours, then in oils. However, family and other commitments intervened and she painted "on and off" for a while. However, the artist within was still struggling to get out.
In recent years Linda has taken part in various workshops held in Barbados by Canadian artists Heidi Berger and Ariel Lyons. Her enthusiasm is renewed and she is currently exploring the vast possibilities offered by acrylics and mixed media. Now, with more free time to paint she has taken up her paintbrushes in earnest.
Influenced by the strong play of light and shadow in our tropical sunlight she is drawn in particular to the colours of the sea. Her subject matter is taken mostly from nature and from the seashore, however she is open to painting whatever else is caught in the play of sunlight.
Linda was invited to exhibit in "Colours Of The Season" at Tides Art Gallery in December 2009, "Colours of Hope II" at Lancaster House in February 2010, and "Explorations" at Artsplash Gallery in March 2011. She has also participated in various group shows at Caribbean Gallery of Art, Tides Art Gallery and the Barbados Arts Council Gallery at Pelican Village.
